Major upgrade to the Woodman Point Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Woodman Point Wastewater Treatment Plant in Perth services more than half a million people in the southern metropolitan area.

Designed to treat 160 million litres of wastewater per day, it is the Water Corporation’s largest wastewater treatment plant.

The $137 million first stage of upgrade works aim to decrease the level of odours from the plant by 50% and increase solids treatment capacity to 177 million litres a day.

Stage One upgrade components

Odour extraction
  • Odour upgrade work on secondary treatment facility and solids processing areas
  • Install more than 1km of odour extraction duct work
  • Construct a new odour control facility to treat extracted air, including a 50-metre stack.
Solids and wastewater treatment
  • Construct one egg-shaped digester
  • Install new mechanical process equipment
  • Install new high temperature flares, to reduce odour emissions
  • Refurbish the sequential batch reactor, to improve the quality of final discharge effluent and prepare for the odour control upgrade
  • Refurbish the tanker receival facility to improve operability and reliability.
